Slit lamp
■ The SL-3G slit lamp, from Topcon Medical Systems, Inc., features a stereoscopic converging microscope (1X to 1.6X magnification), a 6V, 20W halogen bulb that enables narrow slit apertures for detailed observation; and a 20° slit beam inclination to facilitate gonioscopy and fundus observation. Additional features: four built-in filters (to simplify special exams), continuous slit aperture adjustment and an angular measurement scale to facilitate astigmatic contact lens fits.

Specular miscroscope
■ The EM-3000 specular microscope, from Tomey, which employs an LED light source instead of a conventional xenon lamp, features an auto-alignment and auto-shot function (manual photography is possible) and captures a sequence of 15 images. It offers seven fixation points for a wide area of image acquisition — even on an irregular corneal surface — while simultaneously measuring corneal thickness, the company says. The device's color touch screen displays the most accurate photo.

Ophthalmic lens
■ Crizal Avancé, from Essilor of America, is a new ophthalmic finished single vision (FSV) and prescription lens that offers the SR Booster Layer, which is twice as scratch resistant as Crizal Alizé, ensuring durability and visual acuity through time, the company says. Also, the lens provides Scotchgard Protector, which is an integrated multi-layer anti-reflective (AR) stack that includes anti-static properties and a super-hydrophobic topcoat.
