For Your Patients and Practice
AMD genetic test
■ Macula Risk, from the company of the same name, is a prognostic genetic test (cheek swab) for early or intermediate AMD patients that identifies those most likely to progress to advanced AMD. Using the complete combination of AMD genes and a patient's smoking history, it helps you determine the most appropriate management. The test, which is only available to eyecare practitioners, has a more than 83% accuracy for predicting progression to advanced AMD, the company says.

3D wavefront system
■ The OPD-Scan III, from Marco, combines autorefraction/keratometry, pupillometry, corneal topography, optical path difference (OPD), and wavefront (WF) analysis. It features ARK function automation, WF visual acuity maps, a 9.0 mm measurement area, CT blue light (1.0 sec.) and EMR/EHR integration. Further, the system can capture an SA cornea for aspheric IOL selection; lenticular–residual astigmatism; angle kappa; pre/post-toric IOL measurements; and pathologies (keratoconus, etc.); among other items in 10 seconds, the company says.

● The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has issued a U.S. Patent for Marchon3D's Curved M3D lenses. The patent protects the invention of curved lenses configured to decode 3D content. Marchon3D is a division of Marchon Eyewear. ● The C-VUE Advanced HydraVUE line of silicone hydrogel (Definitive material-Contamac custom contact lenses), from Unilens Vision Inc. are available in toric multifocal and multi-focal designs and in made-to-order custom toric and single vision designs. The science behind the presbyopic lens technology allows you to specify the exact ADD power (for near vision) and zone size, the company says. The Definitive material provides a water content of 74%, a Dk of 60 Barrers and a low modulus. ● The Definitive silicone hydrogel material, from Contamac, has been added to the Flexlens specialty lens line, such as the Flexlens keratoconus lens, from X-Cel Contacts. This material requires no surface treatment, the company says. |
