Dry eye eyewear

■ Tranquileyes Moisture Release Eyewear, from Eye Eco, employs two vented chambers, which contain a piece of foam. When soaked in water, the chambers continuously release relative humidity around the eyes, helping to stabilize the tear film, improve visual acuity and ease dryness, redness and fatigue, the company says. Also, a foam-padded gasket and bendable nose bridge help seal the face and protect the eyes from wind, dust and pollen, Eye Eco says. Finally, the lenses are polycarbonate and treated with an anti-fog coating.

Eyecare app

■ The EyeDocApp, from the company of the same name, is a smart phone (iPhone & Android) application that enables O.D.s to have their own fully customized mobile application branded with their practice name and logo, which is a free download for their patients. Specifically, the app allows patients to request appointments, locate your office, get turn-by-turn directions and learn about your services and products, among other features.

Illuminated near card

■ The Illuminated Near Card, from Gulden Ophthalmics, is useful in testing near vision (emulating users' vision with reading materials, computer screens, smart phones, etc.) and ruling out abnormal conditions, such as maculopathy, the company says. The device is indexed with letters from 20/20 to 20/200 in nine increments with clear indices that indicate visual acuity level. The card measures 7.8 x 5.6 x .4″, with a 5.75 x 3.75″ viewing area.

The Illuminated Near Card is useful in ruling out abnormal conditions, such as maculopathy.

■ The Biofinity Multifocal, from CooperVision, is a monthly replacement lens made from comfilcon A. The lens combines the company's Aquaform Comfort Science lens material, which provides high oxygen and a wet surface, with its Balanced Progressive Technology, which delivers near, far and intermediate vision. Other attributes: a Dk/t of 142, an 8.6mm base curve, a 14.0mm diameter, sphere powers of +6.00D to −8.00D and in four ADD powers (+1.00, +1.50, +2.00, +2.50).
