■ At “Optometry’s Meeting” this month, Alcon will officially launch Dailies Total One contact lenses, a new silicone hydrogel (delefilcon A) lens that gradually transitions from 33% water content at its core to more than 80% at its surface, the company says. ■ Accutome has hired sales veteran Matt Virgilio as its new vice president of global sales and marketing. ■ Lagado Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Menicon America, Inc., has received FDA clearance for Lagado LSH (mangofilcon A), a silicone hydrogel material for use in contact lenses. ■ Essilor of America launched a national consumer advertising campaign on Crizal No-Glare lenses, which introduces the need for everyday UV eye protection and showcases the Eye-Sun Protection Factor. ■ Briot and Visionix debuted a new website, which allows visitors to browse the companies’ selection of equipment and instruments, download and print brochures, view accessories, browse technical support questions and view career opportunities. ■ In a settlement with the U.S. government, Bausch + Lomb subsidiary ISTA Pharmaceuticals pled guilty to violating the Anti-Kickback Statute and will pay approximately $34 million in civil and criminal fines. This settlement involves conduct that occurred from 2006 to 2011 (before B+L’s acquisition of ISTA). No current officers or directors were involved in conduct relating to the case, and B+L cooperated fully to resolve the matter, reports the company. ■ TearLab announced a program for Dry Eye Disease Awareness Month (July) that includes an educational program for office staff, patient materials, promotions in social media and a patient satisfaction program. ■ Irving Bennett, O.D., F.A.A.O., will be honored at the 2nd Annual Carnegie Free Library Golf Outing at the Black Hawk Golf Course on June 15 in Beaver Falls, Pa., for his support of the library and the Beaver Falls community. |
