■ Bausch + Lomb has named Robert Bertolini president and chief financial officer. He will report to Chief Executive Officer Brent Saunders. ■ Alcon appointed Dwight Akerman, O.D., head, Global Professional Affairs for the company’s Global Vision Care Franchise, reporting to Eric Bruno, Global Franchise Head, Vision Care. ■ Transitions Optical named Complete Family Vision Care, San Diego, Calif., as the 2012 Transitions Eyecare Practice of the Year in recognition of the staff for displaying excellence in promoting eye health and the Transitions brand. Practice owner Eric White, O.D., accepted the award at Transitions Academy in Orlando. The company also presented the following awards: Lab of the Year-Diversified Ophthalmics; National Retailer of the Year-National Vision; Regional Retailer of the Year-SVS Vision Optical Centers; Vision Benefits Broker of the Year-Anthony Glaub (Professional Insurance Enrollers); HR Visionary of the Year-Maurice Evans, Jr. (Integral Group). ■ OCuSOFT launched a redesigned website, www.ocusoft.com, which promotes the company’s central focus on eye care and its expansion into the dermatology and pediatric markets. ■ MCPHS University and New England College of Optometry have signed a letter of intent to explore the feasibility of combining the two institutions. The partnership would give the university two separately accredited optometry schools and an “optometry” presence in Boston. ■ The Illinois College of Optometry and Chicago Public Schools have received a $249,000 grant in support of their school-based eye clinic, the Illinois Eye Institute at Princeton, which has served more than 11,000 students since it opened in 2011. |
