Measurement device
■ Eye Check, from Volk Optical, is an electronic handheld ocular measurement device. Its capabilities include the measurements of pupil diameter, horizontal visible iris diameter, interpupillary distance, margin reflex distance, pupil eccentricity and strabismus angle. This allows practitioners to screen, diagnose and document ocular characteristics for contact lens fitting and other diagnostic purposes. Also, Eye Check’s results can be output to EHR systems through Wi-Fi connectivity.

Imaging software
■ The IMAGEnet 5 Digital Imaging System, from Topcon Medical Systems, is a DICOM-compliant software for ophthalmic imaging. The system is capable of acquiring, displaying, enhancing, analyzing and saving digital images obtained with a variety of Topcon photographic devices, including mydriatic and non-mydriatic retinal cameras and photo slit lamps. IMAGEnet 5’s digital acquisition procedures can be used for color fundus imaging, red-free photography, fluorescein angiography, fundus auto fluorescence, indocyanine green angiography and photo slit lamp imaging.

Portable ultrasound device
■ The VuPad, from Sonomed Escalon, is a tablet-based ultrasound imaging system that offers A-scan, B-scan and UBM modalities. Users can capture still images and high-resolution video clips that can be reviewed frame-by-frame. Additional VuPad features include wireless interconnectivity to EHR, image management systems and printers, as well as a high-resolution touch screen with pinch-zoom functionality.

Color vision tests
■ Konan’s ColorDx tests are now available in print. The newest version of ColorDx’s Standard 24, which uses colorimetry-corrected printing methods, features the military-validated adult/literate test, new administration features, enhanced reporting, an illiterate/pediatric test section and Dr. Terrace Waggoner’s “Blind Spot Amsler.” Also, a new edition of Color Vision Testing Made Easy was released as ColorDx Pediatric 15. This assessment is designed for young children and mentally challenged individuals.

• Essilor and Transitions Optical have developed the Transitions Signature VII lenses in a graphite green color. These lenses use a special dye formulation and provide natural vision and true color perception in a variety of light conditions. Transitions Signature VII lenses are also available in brown and gray.
• Hydrogel Vision Corporation expanded the Icuity H2O product line to a 14.8mm diameter – Icuity H2O LD. This large diameter disposable lens is made with hioxifilcon A, which retains 99% of its water content on the eye, the company says. Icuity H2O LD lenses are available in an 8.6mm base curve from -0.25D to -8.00D.
