Visual Testing Devices
Assessing sensorimotor and proprioception can reveal refractive challenges
KEVIN GEE, O.D.
Have you ever had that patient you refract to better than 20/20 O.U., and he is not pleased with his vision after you correct it? The reason could be a small misalignment in eye position or a problem with the macula. Sensorimotor and proprioception testing may be the key to revealing such snares and difficulties.
Luckily, we have instrumentation that allows us to obtain this valuable ocular health information to ensure our patients are happy with their contact lenses, spectacles or, if they choose, refractive surgery.
Automated technology
An array of automated devices are currently available that measure convergence insufficiency, suppression and color vision (for macular concerns) for the everyday clinician, whereas these were only used at one time by clinicians in specialty settings.

Orienting Statement
“This procedure allows the doctor to determine whether the vision difficulties you are experiencing are related to the health and structure of your eyes.
