AvaGen, from Avellino Lab USA, is a genetic eye test that can help determine a patient’s risk of keratoconus and the presence of corneal dystrophies. The purpose of the test is to allow for earlier treatment of keratoconus and help guide choices in refractive surgery options. Conducted with a cheek swab, AvaGen analyzes 75 keratoconus-related genes, along with over 2,000 gene variants to develop a keratoconus risk score. It also identifies the presence of corneal dystrophies and diagnosis dystrophy sub-types. ECPs receive results within days via a HIPAA-compliant portal.
