OptiLight, from Lumenis, is an intense pulsed light technology that has received FDA de novo authorization for improving signs of dry eye disease due to meibomian gland dysfunction. OptiLight features the company’s patented optimal pulse technology (OPT) shown to improve TBUT, meibum quality and meibomian gland expressibility in its clinical trial.

MYOPIA MANAGEMENT LENS

Acuvue Abiliti Overnight Therapeutic Lenses, from Johnson & Johnson Vision, is an orthokeratology contact lens FDA approved for the management of myopia. The Abiliti lenses, also available for those with astigmatism, are optimized by the use of corneal topography, refractive error and other measurements connected to a fitting software, the company says. The lenses are expected to be available in the U.S. by the end of 2021.

ORTHOKERATOGY LENS

Euclid Systems Corporation’s Euclid MAX is an orthokeratology lens now available to all U.S. optometrists. FDA approved for the temporary reduction of myopia, the lens features Euclid’s proprietary design, a hyper Dk of 180 and optimized durability. The lens has performed favorably among a select group of ECPs provided access to the lens early following approval, the company says.

DRY EYE THERAPY

EverTears, from ThermaMEDx, is a self-heating, pre-moistened, disposable, sterile cleaning eye pad for the symptoms of dry eye disease that is set to be available to eye care practitioners nationwide this month. The patented technology combines moist, precise heat and a sterile cloth cleaning pad into one product for at-home use.

DISINFECTING SYSTEM

AllClean UV-C, from Ear Technology Corp., in collaboration with OptiSource International and Eschenbach Optik of America, is a disinfecting system for vision care professionals. The sanitizing cabinet uses high-intensity UV light during a three-minute cycle to reduce approximately 99.8% of bacteria and viruses. It is safe for electronics and includes a digital timer countdown and automatic shut-off.

In total, the monthly replacement, made-to-order, silicone hydrogel toric lens is available in almost 33,000 prescriptions, the company says. 

 

  VSP Optics’ Unity BioSync with HydraMist daily disposable, spherical contact lens is now available in an 8.5 mm and an 8.8 mm base curve. Both have a 14.1 mm diameter, and power ranges include +8.00 D to -10.00 D. Also, the lens has a 150 Dk/t value.
