Leonardo Del Vecchio, chairman of EssilorLuxottica, passed away on June 27 at the age of 87. Shortly after his death, the EssilorLuxottica board paid homage to Mr. Del Vecchio, who “will forever be remembered” for his values, robust leadership, passion, and exceptional character, as well as his dedication to EssilorLuxottica and its employees,” according to a statement from the company.
The board appointed Francesco Milleri as its new chairman for the remaining duration of Del Vecchio’s term, while also continuing in his position as chief executive officer. The board further confirmed Paul du Saillant as deputy chief executive officer.
The Board also co-opted Mario Notari as a new director. Mr. Notari will be considered as a non-independent director on the board of EssilorLuxottica.
