Presbyopia-correcting drop

Orasis Pharmaceuticals announced that the FDA has approved QLOSI (pilocarpine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution) 0.4% for the treatment of presbyopia in adults. QLOSI is expected to be commercially available in the U.S. in the first half of 2024.

The prescription eye drop can be used daily, or as needed, up to twice per day. QLOSI demonstrated efficacy 20 minutes after administration and can last up to 8 hours to improve near vision without impacting distance or night vision. QLOSI is a preservative-free formulation of pilocarpine.

Monthly multifocal contact lenses

Alcon announced the global launch of Total30 Multifocal, a monthly water gradient multifocal contact lens. The lens employs the company’s Precision Profile, which provides clear, uninterrupted vision at all distances. Additionally, this Profile is the same optical design found in Dailies Total1 Multifocal and Air Optix plus Hydraglyde Multifocal contact lenses. The contact lenses are available with a full power range of +6.00 D to -10.00 D (in 0.25 D steps) and three ADD powers.

Anterior segment diagnostics

Heidelberg Engineering received FDA clearance for its all-in-one Anterion platform, which combines biometry, IOL power calculation with corneal topography and tomography, anterior chamber metrics, and high-resolution imaging. Proprietary features, such as eye tracking and composite imaging technologies, help deliver images and key measurements. Functionality includes a previously approved Imaging App and newly approved Cataract App, Cornea App, and Metrics App.

Binocular alignment test

Neurolens introduced N3, an immersive, virtual reality experience that provides an objective, accurate, and repeatable measurement of binocular alignment, which incorporates elements of heterophoria, fixation disparity, accommodative convergence response, and central and peripheral alignment. Specifically, N3 uses a dissociative test during which the eyes are shown independent non-fusible targets, and direction of gaze is measured. This measurement is then combined with an associative test during which peripheral fusion is acquired, and central alignment is measured.
