- Celularity and Verséa Ophthalmics announced an exclusive U.S. commercialization agreement in which Verséa Ophthalmics will distribute Celularity’s BIOVANCE and BIOVANCE 3L Ocular products to support the treatment of ocular surface disease and ocular surgical applications.
- The Contact Lens Institute has added additional translations to its suite of EASY Way (Eyes, Awareness, Safety and You) patient education tools, timed for back-to-school season. The initiative helps the eye care community share simple steps to healthy, comfortable contact lens wear. In addition to infographics designed for in-office and online use, The EASY Way social media graphics and animations are now available in English, Spanish, French, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. - EssilorLuxottica has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with Eastman Kodak Company, granting EssilorLuxottica the exclusive right to use the Kodak registered trademarks for products and services in connection with EssilorLuxottica’s business for an indefinite period. The agreement goes into effect at the start of 2024.
- Euclid announced the results of a recent study published in Contact Lens and Anterior Eye. The study, which reviewed 140 published papers that included research on axial elongation, found that the Euclid Ortho-K lens is effective in slowing axial elongation in myopic children. In other news, the company announced its 2023-2024 Resident Scholarships are now open for submission. The available scholarships include the Tim Koch Memorial Scholarship ($1,000), the George E. Glady Scholarship ($1,000), and the Joann Simonsen Scholarship ($1,000). The final submission deadline is May 1, 2024. - The FDA has offered consumer labeling recommendations for hydrogen peroxide-based contact lens care products (HPCPs) submitted in premarket notification (510(k)) submissions. The recommendations are intended to help manufacturers develop labeling with information about specific risks and directions for use of the HPCPs in conjunction with a user’s prescribed contact lenses, in order to promote the safe and effective use of HPCPs. - Myopia Profile announced the launch of its redesigned website, www.myopiaprofile.com . The updated platform introduces an array of innovative features and expanded functionalities, curated to streamline and elevate the myopia management learning experience. In addition, two new features will further support ECPs by providing more in-depth product information and an advanced search functionality.
- The National Eye Institute has awarded $2.5 million in funding over the next five years to help develop a treatment that could eventually enable glaucoma patients to use eye drops once per week instead of daily. The treatment is being developed by Hu Yang, PhD, and fellow researchers at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
- National Vision Holdings, Inc., announced its partnership with Walmart will end in 2024. This includes the supply and operation of Vision Centers in select Walmart stores, providing contact lens distribution and related services to Walmart, and arranging for the provision of optometric services at certain Walmart locations in California.
