CooperVision Costa Rica Manufacturing Facility Earns LEED Gold Certification
CooperVision’s contact lens manufacturing facility in Alajuela, Costa Rica, has been elevated to the LEED Gold status following program recertification from U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence in sustainable design, construction, and operations, according to a CooperVision press release.

The Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) invites the submission of abstracts for the presentation of Free Papers and Posters to be shown at the symposium, which will be held Jan. 18 to 21, 2023, at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, formerly Bally’s. International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness to Launch
Eye Care Accessibility Campaign
The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness will launch the 2022 Love Your Eyes global campaign on World Sight Day (Oct. 13) to raise awareness about the socio-economic importance of eye health. Specifically, the campaign will ask global institutions and governments to do more to support global eye health and will highlight programs that are already successfully addressing poor vision. Optometry & Vision Science Survey Projects Increase in Orthokeratology Lens Fittings
A total of 46% of optometrists not currently fitting orthokeratology lenses say they plan to start doing so within the next two years, according to a recent survey published in Optometry & Vision Science. Additionally, among those who say they are actively fitting the lenses, 56% say they anticipate market growth within the next year. Optometry Giving Sight to Honor Generosity of Donors During Dinner
Optometry Giving Sight (OGS) will recognize more than 40 corporations and individuals for their significant generosity during its inaugural Beacon of Light dinner on Sept. 14 during Vision Expo West. Simovision, a subsidiary of Hilco Vision, appointed Filip Chavatte managing director. He takes the role on from retiring founder, Marc Simonet. World Council of Optometry Transforms Fellowship Program to Grant Program
The World Council of Optometry offers two grants meant to fund projects and initiatives that lead toward the advancement of the role of optometry and its participation within health care systems: general grants and education mentor grants. This benefit takes the place of the previous Fellowship Program and is provided to members of the organization who also agree to submit a final report on their project to the WCO.
