The October 2024 issue of The Ocular Surface reveals the direct interventions for the ocular surface manifestations of Mpox. As a reminder, the World Health Organization declared the virus a public health emergency of international concern on Aug. 14. According to the paper, prophylaxis via the JYNNEOS vaccine appears effective in preventing ocular manifestations of Mpox.
Additionally, should ocular Mpox occur, tecovirimat (an anti-viral medication) and steroid eye drops are shown effective in its direct treatment, according to the paper.
