Frank Fontana, O.D., affectionately referred to as "Uncle Frank," was honored with a celebration at Vision Expo West last month. Dr. Fontana has practiced optometry for 50 years, selflessly contributing to the profession and the industry.

John Schachet, O.D., hosted the party, with other friends and industry manufacturers also contributing. The party was a surprise to Dr. Fontana, who entered a room filled with friends and colleagues.

The party began with a "roast," filled with stories of Dr. Fontana's exploits. Afterward, everyone was treated to a PowerPoint presentation filled with pictures of him through the years. His son was able to attend, but unfortunately his wife couldn't attend due to ill health.

Just about anyone in the industry is one of "Uncle Frank's" nieces or nephews. One of Dr. Fontana's habits was to carry around photos of his friends' children so he could share them with others. A prolific lecturer, he has always been a ready source of advice and help.
