Recently, Rodenstock made three announcements:

• The company's Progressive life C 1.56 index lenses are now available as semi-finished lenses; previously they were only available as finished lenses. The new semi-finished lenses are available in +5.00 to -10.00 sphere power, up to -4.00 cylinder, and in 1.00 to 3.00 addition.
• Effective immediately, Rodenstock lenses are available with Duralux anti-reflective (AR) coating. Duralux AR is a hard coating with 11 layers. According to Rodenstock, Duralux AR eliminates 99% of glare, provides "glass-like" scratch resistance and features a smooth, easy-to-clean surface.
• At the American Optometric Association (AOA) meeting, Rodenstock launched its specialty store on the Eyefinity Web site. The Rodenstock Specialty Store lets you browse information about Rodenstock frames and lenses.
  Rodenstock and Eyefinity will equip the store with e-commerce capabilities by the fall. Visit www.eyefinity.com.

Mobile Refractor

Marco Technologies now sells two hand-held products: the Palm-Automatic Refractor (AR) and the Palm-Automatic Refractor/Kera-tometer (ARK).

When using the Palm-AR or the Palm-ARK, you can move from room to room to perform refractions or keratometry readings. You can take readings from the screen display or print them out through Marco's infrared printer communication.

Both the Palm-AR and the Palm-ARK refractors interface with Marco's TRS-2100 and EPIC-2100 refraction systems.

Bifocals and Trifocals

Fused Kontacts, Inc. reports that its Tangent Streak Segmented Bifocals and Trifocals are now available in Paragon HDS 100 material. As you probably already know, HDS 100 has a Dk of 100.

A Fused Kontacts spokesperson says, "Tangent Streak Bifocals offer clear, crisp vision at both near and distance. Tangent Streak Trifocals center the intermediate vision area between the near and distance vision, which can be important for patients who require excellent intermediate vision because of heavy computer use."

Complimentary CD-ROM

Odyssey Medical is offering an instructional compact disc (CD).

Mesotest

Oculus, Inc. claims its Mesotest II is "an important tool for testing mesopic vision and glare sensitivity." As you know, testing mesopic vision and glare sensitivity are supplements to photopic vision testing, especially when assessing night-driving vision.

The Mesotest II can take measurements in brightly lit rooms. It gives measurements in four contrast levels, with and without glare. Examination programs run at the touch of a key and require no change of test discs.

With optional software, you can operate the Mesotest II through your personal computer.

The Mesotest II weighs 17 pounds. A carrying case is optional.

Q-2100

Cole National Corporation (CNC) and Optical Dynamics Corporation (ODC) have completed testing ODC's Q-2100 lens technology. Therefore, CNC will integrate the Q-2100 technology and lens products into manufacturing and retail operations at its Pearle Vision and Licensed Brands divisions.

ODC technology involves casting rather than polishing and grinding lenses.

A CNC spokesperson says, "We offer our customers a clearer, lighter lens, which creates no eye irritation and takes no longer to manufacture than the traditional process."

At the AOA, First Insight demonstrated maximEyes 4.1, which it calls "the first fully integrated practice management/e-commerce solution for the eyecare industry."

Wall Chart

Now available from Titmus Optical is the 2001 wall chart, featuring Titmus safety frames, accessories and vision screeners.

The wall chart measures 26" x 39" and displays 52 frames. Each frame shown includes availability of size, color and side shield, as well as special features. Savannah

Costa Del Mar, producer of polarized sunglasses, has added Savannah frames to its Sportmetal Collection.

Savannah frames are constructed of Monel metal and designed with rubberized temple tips and custom-made nose pads. The frames come with the company's new Wave 580 lenses, which reduce glare. Wave 580 lenses are available in copper or gray. You can also fit Savannah frames with CR-39 or glass lenses, available in the following six colors: gray, amber, vermilion, sunrise, green mirror and blue mirror.

Resolution Demo

Optima, Inc. has equipped its sales force with demonstration kits that promote the company's polycarbonate lens, Resolution. The kits also point out flaws in competitors' polycarbonates. One way in which they can do this is by exposing birefringence in competing lenses with a simple test that uses polarizers and a portable light source.

Male Frames

ClearVision has added the 314 frame to its IZOD Eyes Model collection. IZOD 314 features a modified aviator double bar eye shape. It has soft nose pads.
