The PreView offers "hyperacuity" to detect AMD. |

Perimeter addresses AMD
Carl Zeiss Meditec launched the PreView PHP (Preferential Hyperacuity Perimeter) for the early detection of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The device identifies elevations in the retinal pigment epithelium consistent with conversion from an intermediate to an advanced stage of AMD, where vision loss usually occurs. The company says that the Preview bases its diagnostic capability on "hyperacuity," the human ability to detect visually the misalignment of objects relative to other objects in space.

Get the right measurement
Talia's new Falcon 418 Pachymeter uses ultrasound technology to get accurate corneal thickness measurements. The device's continuous (analog) measurement capability enables it to capture each corneal thickness reading at high resolution; the Falcon's resolution for a single internal measurement is 0.22 µm. It also offers integrated IOP correction factor, self calibration and one-glance display presenting all the required data at one time.

Portability and accuracy
DGH's new low-cost portable pachymeter, the Model 555 Pachette 3, uses the "exact enhanced corneal thickness measuring algorithm used exclusively by the OHTS (Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study) investigators." The Pachette 3 can measure and store up to 25 measurements bilaterally in as little as 1.6 seconds per eye, says the company, and offers IOP correction calculation that's built into the software. It's powered by rechargeable batteries.
