what's new FOR YOUR PATIENTS AND PRACTICE
Optical transmittance spectrometer
■ The Optical Transmittance Spectrometer (OTS), from Ocean Optics, measures tint color, photopic transmittance and the ultraviolet sharp spectral cutoff of ophthalmic lenses, optical coatings, windows and filters as well as characterizes photochromic, electrochromic and sun lens materials. It's built on a high-resolution miniature charge coupled device (CCD)-array spectrometer configured for the 380nm to 780nm wavelength range. The device accepts samples from 10mm to 76mm in diameter and 15mm thickness for use in lab applications, in which transmittance accuracy (to +/- 1.0%) and precision (+/-0.1%) are critical.

Autofluorescent filters
■ The Spaide Autofluorescent Filters, from Topcon Medical Systems Inc., used exclusively in the company's ImageNet camera systems, produce a vivid, detailed image of the Lipofuscin material that accumulates in the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, the company says. As a result, the new filters will improve tonal contrast, while reducing "noise" in fundus autofluorescence (FAF) images, Topcon Medical Systems Inc. says. Also, the Spaide Autofluorescent filters don't stimulate fluorescein or Indocyanine green (ICG) dyes, so you can acquire photographs pre- or post-angiography.
