Product Spotlight — NEW Blink® Tears Lubricating Eye Drops Relieve Dryness Symptoms
New AMO™ Product
AMO's first dry eye product, Blink® Tears Lubricating Eye Drops, is a longer-lasting, preservative-free-in-the-eye drop with a tear film stabilizing formula and ophthalmic demulcent to relieve irritation stemming from ocular dryness.
Preservative-free in the Eye
Blink® Tears uses an oxidative preservative to protect the formulation in the bottle. The preservative breaks down into natural tear components when exposed to light.1 So it's preservative-free in the eye.
Tear Film Stability
Interferometry analysis shows that the formulation thickens the tear film when the eye is open and thins it when the eyelid closes.2 In this clinical trial, several subjects experienced retention times greater than 60 minutes.
The tear film provides a smooth refractive surface over the irregularities in the corneal topography. A stable tear film improves visual acuity.
Relief of Irritation
Demulcents are used to relieve the irritation brought on by ocular dryness. Blink® Tears employs polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) in a 0.25% concentration. In a clinical trial against a leading competitor with 0.4% PEG-400, Blink® Tears provided excellent relief and improved visual quality over time with less blurring.3
Surface Retention
The tear film is a hydrated mucin gel with its mucin concentration greatest at the epithelial surface.4 Lubricating drops are intended to wash away and dilute irritating or toxic substances in the tear film, but also may hydrate and wash away the mucin.
In premarket clinical trials, Blink® Tears had a longer retention time on the ocular surface.2
Lubrication
Ocular lubrication is essential for ocular health. Blink® Tears provides a cushion of moisture that creates longer retention time with less blurring, thereby increasing comfort and enhancing the quality of vision. With a formula that's preservative-free in the eye, it's nontoxic and nonirritating to the corneal surface. Its demulcent mitigates the irritation brought on by ocular dryness.
Patient Preference
Blink® Tears is well-suited for use by patients with a wide range of mild-to-moderate dry eye symptoms. In the clinical trials, patients overwhelmingly preferred Blink® Tears over their previous eye drops.3■
