Drug Card Letter
Dear colleagues,
Last year, Optometric Management, with support from Alcon Laboratories, Inc. created a concise, pocket-sized clinical reference guide for the medications that optometrists prescribe on a regular basis.
The guide has proven to be a useful tool, and positive feedback from you — our readers — has led us to produce an updated version of the card for 2008.
The drug card provides practitioners and students of optometry with a one-stop resource where they can quickly review the therapeutic options available to treat a variety of conditions. The card includes a listing of the most commonly prescribed products, their ingredients, typical dosage regimens and volumes available. The categories on the drug card are ocular allergy, glaucoma, anti-infective treatments, anti-inflammatory treatments, combination anti-infective/anti-inflammatory treatments and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Many new practitioners will find this reference tool useful as they transition into practice, while more seasoned colleagues will use this card as a means of maintaining their familiarity with the many options available to their patients.
We're very pleased to provide this valuable tool for you again this year. Ask your Alcon representative for several copies of this clinical reference, so that you and your staff have enough on hand to use with every patient.
Sincerely,
Walter D. West, O.D., F.A.A.O.
