Hybrid retinal camera

■ The CX-1 hybrid mydriatic/non-mydriatic digital retinal camera, from Canon U.S.A., Inc., enables you to automatically switch between these modes, so you can perform concurrent ocular tests. In addition, the camera provides up to 15.1 megapixel resolution and handles fundus autofluorescence, red-free, cobalt and fluorescein angiography photography. Further, the device comes with retinal imaging control software that allows you to quickly input and access information and images required to assist in patient diagnosis, the company says.

Portable slit lamp

■ The PSL Classic Portable Slit Lamp, from Keeler Instruments, offers 10x and 16x ‘flip lever’ magnification, with illumination control down to zero. In addition, the PSL slit and wheels include slits from 0.15mm to 1.6mm wide, a 12mm circle and a 1mm square to produce anterior flare. This helps you diagnose uveitis, the company says. Further, the device comes standard with red-free, blue and neutral density filters.

Ocular vitamin

■ PreserVision, from Bausch + Lomb, is an eye vitamin and mineral supplement that includes the agerelated eye disease (AREDS) study formula, replacing beta-carotene with 10mg of lutein, 2mg of zeaxanthin and adding 1,000mg of omega-3 fatty acids per daily dosage. It's currently being evaluated for the AREDS2 study.

■ Powerlux, from Eschenbach, is an illuminated stand magnifier that resembles a computer mouse. It combines an aspheric 20D lens (5x magnification) with two surface mount LED lights (available in cool blue or warm yellow) to facilitate reading and small writing tasks, such as signing documents.
