■ Marco and RevolutionEHR announced a cloud-based integration of refractive equipment and EHR software. The integration provides RevolutionEHR customers with a singleclick solution for automatically populating patient encounters in RevolutionEHR with data collected from Marco refractive equipment. ■ As we go to press, Utah House Bill 408 (Use of Optical Scan Machines), which could have legalized spectacle prescriptions generated by automated refracting machines sans eyecare practitioner oversight, has been withdrawn by its sponsor. With the Utah Legislature in session until March 8th, Mark Taylor, O.D., president of the Utah Optometric Association, has declined comment on bill specifics at this time. ■ The scientific symposium, “Silicone Hydrogel Lenses – Ten Years Later,” sponsored by the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists (CLAO), Inc. and the Eye & Contact Lens journal, will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., just prior to The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) meeting. Ronald Blum, O.D., will become chief visionary officer of the company and remain chairman of the board. ■ Eyetech Inc., marketer of pegaptanib injection (Macugen) in the United States, has been acquired by Valeant Pharmaceuticals, a multispecialty pharmaceutical company that develops, manufacturers and markets a range of pharmaceutical products. ■ VSP will now offer discounts on hearing aids to VSP Vision Care members through Tru-Hearing, a discount medical health organization.
