Retina test
■ The NOVA-PERG vision test, from Diopsys, Inc., is an office-based pattern electroretinography (PERG) test that measures retinal function. Patients view a screen that has alternating checkerboard patterns to prompt a PERG response. This helps you gain objective information about the performance of the inner retinal cells, especially in the macula, to diagnose and monitor vision disorders, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy, the company says.

Dry eye glasses
■ Micro-Environment Glasses
(MEGs), from Seefit, Inc., patented by Richard Yee, M.D., of Texas Medical Center, contain tinted, silicone and removable rubber “Moist-Sure Shields” that enclose the space around the eye. The glasses help to treat dry eye symptoms associated with ocular surface disorders, such as dry eye syndrome, computer vision syndrome and blepharitis, by reducing itchiness, burning, inflammation, excess tearing, fatigue, light sensitivity and decreased vision, the company says. The MEGs can be customized with prescription, antiglare, anti-fog and/or color-treated lenses.

● A non-contact ultra-widefield angiography module, introduced by Heidelberg Engineering for its SPECTRALIS and Heidelberg Retina Angiograph (HRA 2), features a dedicated lens and software. The lens attaches to the existing camera head and can be swapped with the current 30° and 55° widefield lenses for peripheral imaging. The confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope (cSLO) technology and refractive optics deliver highcontrast, undistorted and evenly illuminated images out into the far periphery, the company says. ● The otto (one touch to optical) application, introduced by VSP Optics for Apple iPad, contains patient check-in forms, pre-exam screenings, measurement calculations, such as pupil distance and segment height, and patient consultation on lens options. |
