| ■ Allergan launched the Optometry Jumpstart program developed specifically to address the needs of new doctors. The program provides educational resources and the latest information on Allergan products, including access to product samples and patient assistance programs. Under the agreement, QLT received a payment of $112.5 million at closing and is eligible to receive additional amounts in contingent payments. ■ Williams Group, a practice-management consulting firm, announced that Brad Rourke, CPA, the company's vice president of finance and general manager of the software division, has been promoted to chief executive officer. Meanwhile, Brad Williams O.D., F.A.A.O., will assume the role of chairman of the board. ■ SynergEyes announced it has retooled its policies and procedures for Duette multifocal contact lenses to make it easier to fit everyday patients. Included is a 100% satisfaction guarantee, rebates, preferential pricing and a reorder reminder program. ■ The Optometric Historical Society will present “Lights, Camera, Contacts: A History of Contact Lenses in the Movie Industry” by Society board member Morton K. Greenspoon, O.D., during the American Academy of Optometry meeting in Phoenix. Dr. Greenspoon received an Academy Award nomination for his work on Bram Stoker's Dracula. The meeting will be held in room 229A of the Phoenix Convention Center on Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. ■ American Optometric Student Association (AOSA) Trustees and student representatives from the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) are participating in the World Sight Day Student Challenge by participating in events such as talent shows and bake sales, among other activities.
