▪ Transitions Optical has named the following finalists for its annual Awards program: Diversified Ophthalmics, Optical Prescription Lab and Three Rivers Optical, Costco Optical, LensCrafters and Visionworks, Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center, Henry Ford OptimEyes and Northeastern Eye Institute, and Arizona Family Vision Center, Buena Vista Optical and Clarus Optical. The finalists will be honored during Transitions Academy, Jan. 26 to 29 at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Fla. ▪ In observance of National Glaucoma Awareness Month, Prevent Blindness America provides an online “Glaucoma Learning Center” at www.preventblindness.org/glaucoma-learning-center. ▪ Frank Giardina, O.D., an editorial board member for OM, has been appointed by Governor Jerry Brown as a member of the California State Board of Optometry. Dr. Giardina practices in Nipomo, Calif. ▪ The National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) launched NBEO-Board Certification, Inc., a private, non-profit organization that seeks to “recognize and promote professional lifelong learning to practicing optometrists” via joint Board Certification and Maintenance of Certification programs.
