■ G. Timothy Petito, O.D., F.A.A.O., D.N.A.P., has been named Marco’s manager of professional relations. In this position, he will continue to create strong customer relationships, work with key opinion leaders and have involvement with technical advancement, research and clinical support functions.
■ Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. has appointed Charissa Lee, O.D., to director, Education, Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc., North America (JJVCI). In this role, she will helm the creation of programs that support U.S. optometry schools and colleges.
■ Ed Greene announced he will retire in late 2014 after nearly eight years of serving as chief executive officer of The Vision Council. Mr. Greene is credited with transforming the organization into a global industry representative. His 30 years in the optical industry include positions with Schott Glass, Coburn Technologies, Titmus Optical, Carl Zeiss Optical and his own consulting firm, On The Edge.
■ Scott Orphanos has joined Menicon as vice president, Sales and Marketing, at Menicon America, a wholly owned subsidiary in North America. Mr. Orphanos will be responsible for launching Menicon’s Miru 1day soft contact lens, which comes packaged in a flat pack.
■ The AOA and Optometry Cares-The AOA Foundation are offering volunteer service opportunities within the Optometric Historical Society (OHS). The OHS recently elected two members — Ronald R. Ferrucci, O.D., and Bill Sharpton, O.D. Visit www.aoafoundation.org/historical-gems.
■ The AOA launched an anterior segment image catalog, which is available to all AOA members through its Contact Lens and Cornea Section (CLCS). In addition, you can submit your own photos via the CLCS section of the AOA’s website.
■ Vermont has passed vision insurance contract legislation that, in addition to what is included in Kansas’ law, reported in OM last month, prohibits contracts from discriminating against O.D.s when it comes to reimbursement for vision care and medical services. The law goes into effect Jan. 1, 2015.

■ The NIH has provided a three-year grant to the Iowa City VA Medical Center for the evaluation of glaucoma via a multimodal image analysis method.
■ Optical Polymer Research has added Jeanne Bear to its management team. Having previously worked with Paragon Vision Sciences and SyngerEyes, Ms. Bear brings experience in sales, marketing and business development to both the GP and soft contact lens segments of the company.
■ Rinkov Eyecare Centers, an independently owned practice based in Columbus, Ohio, recently acquired Clear Image Eyecare of Worthington, Ohio. This follows the acquisition of Rosenthal Vision Center in September 2013. The acquisitions are a part of Rinkov Eyecare Centers’ “larger growth plan,” says a press release from the practice.
■ The AOA and Optometry Cares-The AOA Foundation announced that 16 Healthy Eyes Healthy People State Association Grants have been awarded for 2014. For more information on the grants, which assist community outreach programs, visit www.aoafoundation.org/hehp.
■ Distributor ABB Optical Group announced that Trupti Marshall has joined the company as vice president of supplier management. Ms. Marshall will be responsible for overall vendor management strategies and overseeing implementation of a supplier management program.
■ Optometric alliance Vision Source announced it has achieved the second highest ranking in Vision Monday’s listing of the Top 50 U.S Optical businesses, falling behind Luxottica and ahead of Wal-Mart stores. The ranking is based on the 2013 collective revenue ($1.96 billion) of Vision Source members, which, in total, operate more than 2,800 locations.
■ MediGain, a medical billing and reimbursement company, announced Nextech will be its exclusive electronic medical record and practice management solution.
■ Marchon/VSP Global announced a Diane von Furstenberg Google Glass style, which will debut as part of the DVF 2015 Resort collection.
