O.D. Notebook
■ The Tennessee Bill SB220/HB555, which enables the state’s O.D.s to use injectable anesthesia for the eyelid, was signed into law April 8. In related news, Nebraska O.D.s can now inject pharmaceuticals into the lid, lance benign cysts and prescribe immunosuppressives and oral glaucoma meds, thanks to new legislation.
■ The University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry has named Andrew Buzzelli, O.D., M.S., as its founding dean. Dr. Buzzelli is currently dean and professor at the Rosenberg School of Optometry at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. He will start his new job in July. The University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry expects its first class in the fall of 2016.
■ Alcon offers a new compliance kit to help eyecare professionals educate their patients on how to take care of their contact lenses. The kit also provides consumers with a clear doctor recommendation. Alcon will continue to provide “Starter Lens Care Kits” for all new contact lens wearers.
■ Susan Oleszewski, O.D., M.A. has become chief of staff at Salus University. She will oversee the University’s daily operations, strategic planning and development and work with administrative leaders on key University projects.
■ Dennis Pardo, O.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.O. has become director of Professional Affairs at Nicox. In this role, he will team up with established and forthcoming key opinion leaders in retina and rheumatology to identify and create preferred practice patterns for Nicox’s diagnostic products, including Sjö and RetnaGene AMD.
