■ Shire and the Foundation Fighting Blindness have agreed to work together on a novel treatment for autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa. Currently, no approved treatment options are available.
FDA APPROVALS
■ MARCO’s OPD-Scan III’s Final Fit software update has received FDA approval. The update will facilitate compatibility with a new aberrometer to perform topography-assisted LASIK, the company says.
■ Brien Holden Vision announced the FDA has granted clearance for its Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) contact lenses, which uses higher order aberrations to optimize vision over a wide range of distances from far to near.
