■ The American Board of Optometry has announced that O.D.s who sit for the Certification exam within three years of finishing their residency automatically qualify to take the test, and those who take the exam within one year post residency completion are eligible for a savings of $500, starting July 2015. ■ AcuFocus’ KAMRA inlay has received FDA approval to improve near vision in patients who have emmetropic refractions (+0.50 D to -0.75 D) via extending depth of focus.
■ Alcon’s AcrySof IQ ReSTOR +2.5D IOL has received FDA approval for patients desiring simultaneous near, intermediate and distance vision.
■ The New Drug Application for Lifitegrast (Shire), a small-molecule integrin inhibitor for the treatment of dry eye disease in adults, has been accepted by the FDA and granted a Priority Review designation.
