Talk with children and their parents about children’s eye health, and preparing for back to school with a comprehensive exam.
Do you have an inventory matrix that helps guide your contact lens and optical frame buying decisions? An inventory matrix can be used to help keep your purchasing in line with your consumer demographics and buying patterns. (For more, see the article on building an inventory matrix in the July 2013 edition.) Take 30 minutes.
Cost of goods and services is an important KPI to track monthly. It should range between 20% to 40% of collections within your operating budget for most business models that have a dispensary. Take 30 minutes.
For mild, moderate and severe forms of epidemic keratoconjunctivitis, what diagnostic tests are performed? Document how much time you think each will take. Review correct diagnostic codes and protocols. Take 30 minutes.
When was the last time you said “thank you” to your staff? Maybe this summer would be a great time to show the members of your staff some appreciation with an outing. Close the clinic, and take a day to express your appreciation. Take 60 minutes.
This month, conduct a staff meeting on customer service. You could watch YouTube videos on the subject, hire an outside consultant to give a seminar in your building, or read any number of books, articles, websites on the subject. Ask the staff for ideas. Take 60 minutes.
Do you have the most up-to-date forms for co-managing refractive surgery? If it has been a while since you have updated these, take the time to do so this month. Take 5 minutes.
August is also the time to do your annual OSHA review of your facility and staff practices. Take 45 minutes.
Depending on where you are located, school may be starting at the end of the month. Take the time to plan your back-to-school marketing campaign. OM
