In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Optometric Management is continuously updating “Coronavirus: Prevention Tips for O.D.s,” which originally appeared in the March 2020 issue of OM. The link to the article is https://bit.ly/2wdvkWl .
In addition to article updates, the link contains a list of resources for optometrists, which will be updated regularly. Understanding that you have myriad sources for information regarding COVID-19, this section will focus on those resources for eye care professionals (ECPs). A sampling of selected resources, updated through March 25, follows.
- The American Optometric Association’s Health Policy Institute has issued the statement “Doctors of Optometry and COVID-19,” posted at https://bit.ly/2WEt7Ok . The statement includes information from the CDC, the FDA and CMS, among others. The statement also includes information on symptoms to watch and a “need to know” section.
- COPE published a “Temporary Rules Modification,” https://bit.ly/39dnEAK that explains how COPE will allow live credits for CE activity that is presented in an “interactive distance learning format.” The interactive format must include immediate interaction with the instructor and a method to verify attendance. Also, once the presentation has finished, learners may no longer participate in the CE activity.
- The Centre for Ocular Research and Education’s Contact Lens Update has practitioner resources at https://contactlensupdate.com . The resources include information on what ECPs need to know about contact lens wear and hand hygiene and clinical insights on good habits for healthy contact lens wear.
- The International Association for Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) is offering all educators access to online resources for remote teaching during the pandemic. Visit iacle.org and navigate to the “Free Resources” area.
- The CDC is offering resources for clinics and healthcare facilities during the pandemic: https://bit.ly/2wze1Po . Included is the article, “Prepare to Care for COVID-19: Get Your Practice Ready.”
