SUMMER BLUES
No matter where you are in the U.S. in August, the sun plays a prominent roll. Chances are good that the average consumer has lost the pair of sunglasses she purchased at the beginning of the summer (or even multiple pairs of sunglasses). Take a few moments to remind consumers why sunwear is important to their eye health and your offerings! In the age of COVID-19, it’s a good idea to also include information about e-commerce, convenience or social distancing measures that you have in place to help them make this purchase safely!
You might even consider a small sale to move your inventory!
Awareness Month
THE COLLEGE OF OPTOMETRISTS IN VISION DEVELOPMENT AND AMERICAN OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION recognize August as National Children’s Vision and Learning Month. This is an opportunity to raise awareness about pediatric vision exams and their importance. As optometrists, you know that vision problems can cause issues in the classroom and resulting behavioral issues may even be misdiagnosed by other professionals. Take a moment to hop on to Facebook Live and discuss the statistics:
According to the AOA’s 2017 Guideline Brief “Evidence-based clinical practice guideline: Comprehensive Pediatric Eye and Vision Examination” found at bit.ly/AOApedvision2 :
- School screenings, of which students may not receive due to COVID-19 challenges this year, provide less than 4% of eye tests needed to help children see
- They also miss up to 75% of children who have vision problems
- Of children found to have eye problems through screening, 61% never visit the doctor to get help
Choose the information you believe will resonate in preparing your brief script. Make sure to include a call to action to “schedule a comprehensive vision exam for your child today” with your contact information in the video’s description box.
