Dellia Evans, O.D., owner of Odoms Eye Care Optical, in Jackson, Miss., recently released her self-published book, “Heart Vision: How to See Your Path Forward When You’re in a Dark Place” to empower fellow domestic violence abuse victims to change their lives for the better to become survivors. Dr. Evans suffered 20 years in a marriage riveted with emotional, verbal, financial and physical abuse.
“I use vision and eyes throughout the book as a metaphor. I talk about how experiencing domestic violence can cause nearsightedness, in that those going through it see only the specific situation that has led to an event and not the big picture,” she explains. “I encourage the reader to see with their heart and not their natural eyes, which is where the title of the book came from.”
One dollar from every book is donated to Great Faith Vision (greatfaithvision.org ), an all-volunteer, faith-based, 501(c)3 tax exempt nonprofit that spreads the Gospel and provides eye care services. Additionally, Dr. Evans has her own website, drdellia.com .
