Nanodropper Inc. released an eyedrop bottle adaptor that decreases the size of a typical eyedrop by as much as 70%, stretching the life of a bottle. Named Nanodropper, this FDA-listed, Class 1 medical device screws on over the tip of most eyedrop bottles. The device has won awards, including the University of Washington Hollomon Health Innovation Challenge in 2019 and the Johns Hopkins Healthcare Design Competition award in 2018.

Verkazia, from Santen Inc., is an FDA-approved cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion 0.1% eye drop for vernal keratoconjunctivitis in children and adults. Verkazia is a prescription-only, formulated oil-in-water cationic emulsion that works by inhibiting T-cell activation and decreasing the level of immune cells and mediators that cause the chronic, severe, potentially debilitating allergic inflammation of the ocular surface that is seen in those affected by VKC.

ORTHOKERATOLOGY SOLUTION

REMLens, from X-Cel Specialty Contacts, is a orthokeratology design for the management of myopia. Specifically, the lens is designed to yield Rapid Eye Molding for patients who have low-to-moderate myopic refractive error. It is manufactured exclusively in Boston Equalens II material. The lens is available to prescribe for patients up to -5.00 D sphere and -1.50 D of astigmatism. The lens features four independently adjustable fitting zones, five diameter sizes (each with three optic zone options) and Dynamic Edge Profile, which provides on-eye comfort in an open and closed eye.

The first is the Sensity Fast light reactive lens technology in brown, and the second is a polarized version of iD LifeStyle 3 lens technology in gray, brown and green. → Bausch + Lomb expanded parameters for its ULTRA Multifocal for Astigmatism contact lenses, which includes the addition of -2.25 D and -2.75 D cylinder power parameters for patients who have both astigmatism and presbyopia.

→ Genentech announced that the FDA accepted its Biologics License Application, under Priority Review, for the company’s Port Delivery System with ranibizumab (PDS) for the treatment of wet, or neovascular, AMD.

→ Oasis Medical Inc. is now offering its Tears PF PLUS preservative-free lubricant eye drops in a 10 mL bottle for multiuse. The bottle prevents contamination through the use of a patented closing tip, valve and air-venting system. The drops are sterile for up to 90 days after opening.
