- Alcon launched its Systane Hydration Multi-Dose Preservative-Free artificial tears in the U.S. The drops use the company’s proprietary HydroBoost Technology and are designed for dry eye disease patients who use drops frequently (defined as more than four times per day), plus post-surgery patients. Alcon also announced an agreement that provides the company with the exclusive rights to sell BlephEx eyelid cleaning technology and accompanying products in the U.S.
- CooperVision launched a sustainability toolkit to help eye care providers positively impact the environment. Tools include educational resources, patient communication materials and ideas for making practices more environmentally friendly. The toolkit complements CooperVision’s clariti 1 day net plastic neutral initiative.
- Essilor announced that the FDA has granted “Breakthrough Device” designation to its Stellest spectacle lens, the company’s new-generation lens developed to correct myopia and to slow down the progression of myopia in children. - Haag-Streit Diagnostics announced its third ‘Slit Lamp Imaging Competition 2021,’ which gives eye care professionals globally the opportunity to showcase their slit lamp imaging skills. - IDOC launched the IDOC HR Now on-demand platform that offers unlimited access to legal forms, templates and HR experts to answer member questions regarding HR compliance. - PECAA announced a marketing advisory service for its membership that is an extension of its Member Business Advisor Program. The service will provide insights and guidance related to paid and unpaid advertising strategies; reputation management; social media campaigns; branding; event marketing; identifying current strengths and weaknesses; and helping practices develop a marketing budget.
- World Council of Optometry Board of Directors is officially advising optometrists to adopt a myopia management standard of care in their practices. The resolution includes three components: (1) mitigation, (2) measurement and (3) management. Plus, it shifts the standard of care to managing the condition and educating the public vs. only correcting vision.
