CURATE PROFESSIONAL INSTAGRAM POSTS
Optometrist JENNIFER STEWART shares the following tips from her Instagram experience: Having a professional Instagram page is a great way to network with colleagues, form connections and stay current on trends in the industry.
1. BE PROFESSIONAL: Keep your audience in mind. A professional Instagram page should be just that. Be mindful of your posts and deliberate in your message.2. CONSIDER MULTIPLE PROFILES: I have four (!) Instagram profiles — a personal profile, a professional profile and one for each of my businesses. I find having a personal profile allows me to connect with friends and family, while my professional profiles keep my personal life separate.
3. BRANCH OUT: I have formed some great relationships with industry and optometry colleagues through my professional Instagram page. It has been a fantastic way to expand my network and stay current on the latest news and trends in the optical and optometry community. Also, our colleagues are incredibly creative and inspiring!

Observances: American Stroke Month
The AOA joins the American Stroke Association to recognize May as American Stroke Month. Hop on to Facebook for a short live video post linking the risks of stroke and the benefits to eye health when these are mitigated. Here are a few examples:
- Blood pressure. High blood pressure can be witnessed in the vessels in the eye via ocular hypertension, which can lead to glaucoma, indicated by a pressure buildup in the eye.
- Diabetes. The disease manifests in the eye as diabetic retinopathy, in which the blood vessels of the eye begin to bleed into the fluid in the center of the eye. Having diabetes also puts you at higher likelihood of developing cataracts and glaucoma.
- High cholesterol. See graphic above.
- Smoking. Smoking not only increases the likelihood of a stroke, it also increases the person’s likelihood of developing cataracts and AMD.
You can also use any of these scripts in a post and include a related clinical image to grab your followers' attention.
P.S. Don't forget about Mother's Day! Find graphics, like the one pictured, at the download page.
