- Alcon says it plans to launch TOTAL30, a monthly replacement, water gradient lens. The water gradient design is made possible by biomimetic CELLIGENT Technology, which combines a biomimetic surface and the lens chemistry to help combat bacteria and lipid deposits, the company says. The lens will be commercially available in the United States this month, Alcon says.
- American Optometric Association released a clinical report on myopia management. The report includes sections on classification of myopia, the associated complications, risk factors, the equipment/instrumentation needed and elements of follow-up care. - Global Specialty Lens Symposium (GSLS) Education Committee is looking for paper and poster submissions on clinical case reports, case series and clinical and basic research on all aspects of contact lenses (such as materials, designs, lens care), in addition to related topics, such as corneal and ocular surface disease, diagnosis and treatment approaches and practice management. - IDOC announced the launch of new optical services, including enhanced Optical Consulting, which is included in IDOC membership dues. IDOC is also offering the service to independent, non-member practices for a monthly fee. Optical Consulting includes strategic advice, analytical tools and support for practice innovation and growth, via optical experts who consult with participating practices on a monthly basis.
- International Myopia Institute released another round of 2021 IMI White Paper Clinical Summaries via a special issue of the journal Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science. Available in English and in up to 12 other languages, all are one page and feature contributions from more than 134 global myopia experts. The goal of the summaries is to disseminate information to prevent future myopia-related vision impairment and blindness, especially in underserved regions of the world.
