- Abyde, a compliance solution provider, and eye care software developer Eyefinity, a VSP Vision company, have announced their continued and expanded partnership for 2022. The two companies say they aim to continue to develop further integration of the two products and an increase in educational resources for eye care providers.
- Aerie Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced that the first participant in the first of three phase 3 clinical trials has been dosed with the company’s AR-15512 ophthalmic solution for the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. Aerie says it plans to start the other two trials in the second half of 2022 in support of a potential New Drug Application (NDA) filing in 2024.
- Registration is now open for the American Academy of Optometry’s 2022 meeting in San Diego. Academy 2022 will be held Oct. 26 to Oct. 29 at the San Diego Convention Center, and will feature more than 300 hours of education for attendees. - Biogen and Samsung Bioepis plan to launch the biosimilar BYOOVIZ (ranibizumab-nuna) in the US this summer. BYOOVIZ has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of neovascular (wet) AMD, macular edema following retinal vein occlusion, and myopic choroidal neovascularization.
- Bruder released new research highlighting the willingness of cataract surgery patients to adhere to pre-operative prep. The report found that fear is the predominant emotion in one out of three study patients; the authors strongly recommended prescribing a pre-surgical prep-kit as a way to combat fear and uncertainty. - A Centre for Ocular Research and Education (CORE) and University of Waterloo Department of Chemical Engineering study has determined that human coronaviruses can easily be removed from contact lens surfaces, although regimen matters depending on the type of lens care solution. Most notably, rub and rinse steps are crucial for non-oxidative systems, while products containing hydrogen peroxide and povidone-iodine removed contaminants through soaking alone. - The Contact Lens Institute shared consumer research that reinforced the importance of communication between eye care practitioners and their patients. - CooperVision Specialty Eyecare announced the latest iteration of its “Make a Difference” program. - Johnson & Johnson Vision received FDA clearance for its latest daily disposable contact lenses, the ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day and ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day MULTIFOCAL. Available in spherical and multifocal, ACUVUE OASYS MAX 1-Day contact lenses are designed to address multiple vision correction needs. The new lenses are anticipated to be made available in the US, Canada and multiple European countries in the autumn, according to the company. - Olleyes Inc. announced a partnership with eye-tracking technology company Tobii to incorporate advanced eye tracking features within the Olleyes VisuALL ETS virtual reality platform for assessment of visual functions. The Olleyes VisuALL tests collect data by projecting stimuli on specific areas of the retina as a user interacts with the device’s software. By utilizing the eye tracking, the VisuALL ETS stimulus remains consistent with the same region of the retina regardless of user error.
- Professional Eye Care Associates of America (PECAA) held its annual meeting in Palm Springs, Calif., from May 19 to May 21, with the show returning after a three-year hiatus. This was also the first show PECAA hosted since its merger with Healthy Eyes Advantage HEA. The show saw more than 900 members, strategic vendor partners, and industry thought leaders in attendance.
- Transitions Optical’s 25th Transitions Academy was held June 1 through 4 in Orlando. Attendees learned about Transitions’ latest projects and participated in professional development and product technology seminars, as well as heard from experts and educators on industry trends.
- Treehouse Eyes announced it is partnering with Johnson & Johnson Vision on a direct-to-parent marketing campaign in several U.S. cities. The campaign launched in April, and includes paid social influencer partnerships, and media partnerships targeting parents, to drive awareness and a call to action to ask their eye care practitioner about myopia treatment options.
