Bausch + Lomb announced the U.S. launch of Biotrue Hydration Plus Multi-Purpose Solution. The contact lens solution matches the pH of healthy tears and contains 25% more hyaluronan (HA) when compared with Biotrue Multi-Purpose Solution. HA is a moisturizer found naturally in tears to help keep more moisture on contact lenses. The solution also includes potassium, which is found naturally in tears and plays an important role in ocular surface homeostasis, and erythritol, which protects HA against free radicals and also helps maintain ocular surface homeostasis.

Olympic Ophthalmics announced the FDA has granted its 510(K) request for the company’s second-generation iTEAR100 device, a prescription neuromodulation therapy to acutely increase tear production in adult patients over a 30-day period. The second-generation device offers telehealth tools, including prescription download capability and activation via mobile phone app. The at-home device has been cleared by the FDA to increase natural tear production.
