Sherrol A. Reynolds, OD, FAAO, contributed a section on diabetes-related eye examinations to a recent American Diabetes Association (ADA) publication, A Practical Guide to Diabetes-Related Eye Care. Dr. Reynolds called it “an honor” to be asked by the ADA to be involved in the guide. “Optometrists are at the forefront of diagnosing eye disease in patients with diabetes and preventing or slowing the progression of diabetic retinopathy, the leading cause of blindness among younger adults age 20-74,” she says. “The ADA recognizes the important role of optometrists in the diabetes care team.”
Dr. Reynolds’ section, titled “How to Interpret a Diabetes-Related Eye Examination Report,” reviews the latest information regarding diagnostic technologies, patient education, treatments, and telemedicine-based diabetes-related retinal disease screening.
The guide was published on June 23, and can be accessed free of charge at https://bit.ly/ADAeyecareguide . It is part of the ADA’s Clinical Compendia series, the rest of which can be accessed at https://professional.diabetes.org/monographs . OM
