- In a press event held during AOA’s Optometry’s Meeting, Alcon shared insights into the TOTAL30 portfolio of monthly water gradient contact lenses. In addition to a panel discussion, Sean Clark, general manager, U.S. Vision Care, Alcon, said a soft launch of the TOTAL30 multifocal was expected this fall, with a full national launch in the first quarter of 2024. The meeting also included an update on MARLO, the company’s digital contact lens ordering platform, as well as the Ophthalmic World Leaders (OWL) panel, “Eyes on Inclusion: Mentorship Matters.” The panel included moderator Nivine Woods, OWL president-elect, and Drs. - The American Optometric Association has launched the mobile game “Blink Land,” as part of it’s “Eye Deserve More” campaign. Blink Land is, according to the AOA, the first mobile game about eye health, and teaches players how to care for their eyes in relation to screen time. - CooperVision launched the consumer phase of its “Make Children’s Sight Your Fight” myopia control advocacy initiative. The back-to-school campaign uses a three-pronged approach to generate awareness, educate and inform, and drive action with parents and ECPs. - EssilorLuxottica’s Leonardo platform will continue to include the World Society of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus’ Independent medical education program content on myopia management. This year, the program features a digital supplement, three e-learning modules, and three webinars.
- Euclid Vision Corporation announced ABB Optical Group as a licensed manufacturer and distributor of Euclid’s orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses. Euclid is the manufacturer of the Euclid Emerald and Euclid MAX Ortho-K contact lenses, which are worn overnight and are designed to reshape the cornea, so patients wake up to clear vision.
- Glaukos recently launched it’s iDetective campaign designed to educate optometrists on the early signs or clues of keratoconus, so that patients can be diagnosed as early as possible. The campaign includes digital and print communications, including a dedicated website (idetectives.com ), videos and podcasts, advertising and advertorials, social media, and conference presence. In addition, the campaign will include content and resources such as autorefractor and topography cards.
- Harrow has acquired U.S. commercial rights for the following products from Santen: FLAREX (fluorometholone acetate ophthalmic suspension) 0.1%; NATACYN (natamycin ophthalmic suspension) 5%; TOBRADEX ST (tobramycin and dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension) 0.3%/0.05%; VERKAZIA (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion) 0.1%; ZERVIATE (cetirizine ophthalmic solution) 0.24%; and FRESHKOTE lubricant eye drops.
- Hilco Vision has earned Drug Distributor Accreditation from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) for its North Las Vegas, Nev., facility, which is a wholesaler distributor of optical and ophthalmic products that distributes and stores prescription and over-the-counter drugs and medical devices.
- Leiters, an FDA-registered 503B outsourcing provider of compounded sterile preparations and pharmacy services, announced that it is rebranding to Leiters Health. The company said the name change better represents its “growing market” in healthcare and “future strategic expansion.”
- Nanodropper announced positive results from a recent study which quantified eyedrop volume reduction and bottle life extension with the Nanodropper Adaptor compared to standard eyedrops. The study found that eyedrops administered with the adaptor are, on average, more than 62% smaller than typical drops. The study is viewable online at pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37056302/ .
- PlenOptika partnered with non-profits Sightsavers and the Fred Hollows Foundation to pilot a new vision care program in Sierra Leone and Nepal. The program will explore whether trained community health workers can effectively screen for refractive errors at scale using handheld technology.
- Professional Eye Care Associates of America (PECAA) and VSP Vision announced a new program, the VSP Vision Exam Rebate (VER), which will enable PECAA Max members to receive up to $15,000 more for VSP patient exams for the remainder of 2023.
