The Reasons
The more I observe people who are successful at their chosen occupation, the more I become aware of the power of connection as a tool for success. Some people are just naturally outgoing and make a lot of connections in their day-to-day life. For others, it’s a more of an intentional effort, such as joining a local civic club or getting involved with local community events.
Specific to optometry, I’ve observed that many highly successful practice owners are very involved in their community and, as a result, create a lot of connections. This likely won’t translate to an immediate increase in business for your practice, but over time the return on investment for your time spent building connections will likely pay off. Not to mention, you’ll make a lot of new friends along the way!
The Implementation
Here are a few considerations:
- Reach out to other local business owners to inquire about possibilities for partnerships or cross-promotion.
- Visit other health care practitioners in your area to introduce yourself.
- Sponsor or support community events.
- Inquire about leadership roles with organizations you’re involved with.
- Do volunteer work. OM
