Hopefully this holiday season, we will all be spending some quality time with family and friends. I always love going to see relatives and having sleepovers (as long as my hosts keep the temperature below 70° at night 😀). You get to really know someone when you spend three days together in the same house. You see each other’s routines, and you find out who really removes their makeup at night!
Inevitably, our conversation will turn to eyes. After all, that is what we do. I know you ask your attorney cousin legal questions now and again at a family event! So, what will you say if your family asks you for eye care advice?
If we are talking about vision correction, I would tell them about fashion-forward frames, high-quality lenses and contact lenses that provide all-day comfort and amazing vision. If we are talking about eye health, I would tell them about the epidemic of dry eye disease and how it can be thwarted by good eyelid hygiene and nutrition. I love walking family and friends through the process of a nightly ritual of eyelid hygiene. I always carry preservative-free rewetting drops, hot compresses and hypochlorous spray, just in case. I’m even planning to bring eyelid cleansing pads with me to share and let family experience the difference they make. Pre-moistened pads for allergies and Demodex pads are also great options to have with me. I have become so accustomed to bringing products for eyelid and ocular hygiene, that my relatives will often let me know what they need in anticipation of the holidays.
I love that I can lead by example because they see that I really believe in what I do. My family are my biggest fans and I know yours are too, so give them something to tell their friends about. One patient at a time, we can make a difference for the better.
