Chief Optometric Editor April Jasper, OD, FAAO, has written the book “Creating your business of distinction.”* Specifically, the book provides a blueprint, through anecdotes and exercises, for how her practice, Advanced Eyecare Specialists, in West Palm Beach, Fla. has achieved success.
“When I first went into practice ownership, I struggled to understand how to create a business that patients consistently loved. At the time of me trying to figure this out, many of my colleagues, including myself, were having difficulty getting patients to comply with their anti-glaucoma medications,” she explains of wanting to write the book. “I started to piece together that my patients were more compliant, happy, and more willing to stick with me for their other care when I took the time to communicate the value of doing so with them. This, in turn, garnered their trust and, therefore, their loyalty.”
Dr. Jasper adds that in the book, she walks through ways the OD practice owner can rethink their businesses to reinvigorate themselves and their team — a must, she says, when endeavoring on making changes for the better.
The book is approximately 107 pages, including a bibliography and video resources page. This was by design, she says.
“In my experience if a book is too long, people don’t finish it. This one is meant to read alone, then go back and read with the optometrist’s team, doing the exercises at the end of each chapter together.”
“Creating your business of distinction” is now available at amzn.to/3LM8JmR. An audiobook is forthcoming.
