It’s that time during which we work on personal and professional goals for the next 12 months. In the spirit of the New Year’s resolutions tradition, Optometric Management asked its ongoing contributors what they’ll be focusing on in 2025.
“We have been and will continue to actively encourage people from our area to go to optometry school, going so far as to hire them as summer interns while in undergrad programs. We now have six people in optometry school with a seventh being accepted to enter fall of 2025. We are growing our replacements. In 2025, we intend to incorporate new graduates into our practice.”
– Dori M. Carlson, OD, MAL, FAAO, “Inspire. Lead. Succeed.” columnist
“Our clinic resolves to work smarter by implementing AI-assisted dry eye disease (DED) diagnostics. Additionally, we are launching educational email sequences to empower patients in understanding their DED diagnosis and treatment options.” – Pamela E. Theriot, “Dry Eye” columnist
A New Year's resolutions poem
In this new year, let’s commit to see,
A future where glaucoma blindness shall not be.
A New Year's resolution poem
I’ll increase awareness (provider and patient), far and wide,
With virtual webinars and in-person conferences on the side.
I’ll tailor treatments, with patients always
first in mind,
Considering better their individual age and stage, no aspect blind.
I’ll better guard the ocular surface, be more keen,
Ensuring every surface is kept clean.
With empathy, we’ll listen and care,
Support our patients, always there.
Removing barriers, big or small,
Together we’ll ensure adherence for all.
Here’s to a year of vision bright,
Preventing blindness from glaucoma, our
guiding light!
– Austin Lifferth, OD, FAAO, clinical editor
“We are focusing on our eroding optical capture rate. A high optical capture rate is essential in optometry, as it ensures that patients receive quality eyewear tailored to their specific needs, improving overall visual outcomes and satisfaction. Additionally, a strong capture rate supports practice sustainability, enabling investment in advanced technology and staff training for better patient care.” – Mike Cymbor, OD, FAAO, “Glaucoma” columnist
“The resolutions for my practice are to continue upward growth, drop our first vision insurance plan, and add our first associate. We are ready for a big year!”– Patricia Fulmer, OD, FAAO, “Staffing” columnist
“I have several resolutions, though what is at the top of my list is to establish a state-of-the-art digital health platform that integrates EHR, telemedicine capabilities, and patient management software specifically tailored for myopia management.” – Maria Liu, OD, PHD, MPH, MBA, FAAO, “Myopia Management” columnist
“My practice’s goals are to continue to grow our dry eye disease services by implementing new diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, and redouble our efforts on myopia management education with our existing patient base to generate increased referrals.“
– Susan A. Resnick, OD, FAAO, “Contact Lenses” columnist OM
