Practice Tip: Short tenure at a previous job can be a hiring red flag
“Most practices are looking for an employee who will stay long-term,” writes Dr. Patricia Fulmer, in her latest “Staffing” column. A résumé that shows short spans of time in previous positions (less than a year), can signal a job hopper. CooperVision’s myopia control lens spotlighted in British journal
Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics, the journal of the UK College of Optometrists, recently published “Six-year culmulative treatment effect and treatment efficacy of a dual focus myopia control contact lens,” by Chamberlain P, et al. Specifically, the study discusses the myopia control efficacy of CooperVision’s MiSight 1 day contact lenses, and it describes methods that can be used to estimate myopia control, such as emmetropic eye growth. Hoot Health to launch pediatrician referral program

M&S Technologies unveiled the Bruder Ocular Surface Analyzer (BOSA). Specifically, the dry eye assessment device captures and provides ocular surface disease test results, and facilitates the creation of customizable treatment plans, which eye care practitioners can include in their dry eye treatment regimen. The technology can also provide documentation for Demodex and blepharitis.
Ocular Therapeutix announces FDA agreement to Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) modification for phase 3 trial on wet AMD drug
Ocular Therapeutix, Inc. announced that the FDA agreed to a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) agreement modification for Ocular Therapeutix’ phase 3 clinical trial of OTX-TK1 axitinib intravitreal implant (Axpaxli) for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration. Specifically, the SPA agreement enables the trial to include treatment-naïve wet AMD subjects who have 20/80 visual acuity or better at the initial screening visit, and to evaluate Axpaxli using a single optimized implant with a drug load of 450 µg.
Prevent Blindness launches educational series to celebrate 15th anniversary of the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health
In celebration of the 15th anniversary of the National Center for Children’s Vision and Eye Health, Prevent Blindness will be holding monthly, interactive virtual “Office Half-Hours,” on various topics, including best practices for vision screening of children of all ages, tips for closing the gap between vision screening referrals and confirmatory eye exams, and more, according to a press release. Office Half-Hours will occur on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. EST. The first occurred Jan. 24, 2024.
Study shows patients with concussion history have decreased saccade performance via eye tracking
Patients who have a history of concussion had lower saccade performance vs. patients without that history, based on eye tracking, according to a recent study in Optometry Vision Science. Additionally, the study shows risk factors for lower saccade performance among patients who have concussion history, giving weight to the use of saccade test results as biomarkers for concussion. The Vision Council notes slight growth in optical industry size compared
with 2022
The Vision Council’s Market inSights 2023 report estimates that the optical market is valued at $65.6 billion, demonstrating growth in the volume of eye exams and prescription eye care products sold, with a slight increase in sales compared to 2022, according to a press release.
Visioneering Technologies reports one-year prospective data on contact lens for myopia control at Global Specialty Lens Symposium
Visioneering Technologies released 1-year prospective data of its ongoing multinational, double-masked, randomized controlled trial on its NaturalVue Multifocal 1 Day Contact Lenses for myopia progression control in children at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, in Las Vegas, last week. World Council of Optometry to host virtual myopia event focused on Latin America
The World Council of Optometry (WCO), in partnership with CooperVision, will present the Latin America-focused virtual event, “Myopia Management: From Theory to Practice,” Feb. 20, Feb. 22, Feb. 27, and 29, 2024.
