All Systems Go!
Capture patient data, get advice from colleagues and more with this system.
GREGG L. OSSIP, O.D.
We've used notes to remember our patients' eyes at their follow-up visits, and we've relied on Polaroid film for documentation. Now we have digital and video documentation.
This same digital imaging used in retinal photography will change the way we document slit lamp images and enable us to better manage and educate our patients. I'll explain how with one new system.

Typical reimbursement rate: $61 CPT code: 92285 Dimensions: footprint depends on size of monitor and what you put the system on (e.g., mobile cart, shelf or desk) Warranty and service policy: 1 year parts and labor; software upgrades Cost: $8,995 plus $7,200 for the slit lamp, unless you already have a Haag-Streit slit lamp Company contacts: (800) 627-6286; www.haag-streit-usa.com |
The new technology
Haag-Streit's EyeCap SL is a Windows-based image capture and management system that directly captures high-quality color images from slit lamps equipped with digital or video cameras, as well as any other ophthalmic device with video or TWAIN output.
This system is one of the most advanced means of documenting eye disease. It works with any Haag-Streit slit lamp, and you can view the live image on the computer monitor and press the foot switch to store the captured image.
System features
The EyeCap SL contains all of the features required for image capture, storage, display, archiving and image processing. The standard EyeCap SL application can capture images from S-VHS sources and is commonly used with single charge-coupled device (CCD) video cameras. The camera and background lighting are built into the slit lamp for superb photographic quality.
The EyeCap SL Pro captures images from RGB and S-VHS sources. If you want the highest quality, you'll want to opt for this version of the EyeCap SL. You can upgrade the SL Pro software to capture images from fundus cameras using flash synchronization (EyeCap RI/FA).
Both the EyeCap SL and SL Pro record eye disease efficiently and store up to 350,000 images with a 20GB hard disk.
The EyeCap in action

The EyeCap SL consists of a computer monitor and
CPU. |

The EyeCap's storage capacity provides a cost-effective way to share data over a network, and the software design permits clinicians at different locations to simultaneously view the same patient file.
Learning the software is fairly easy and navigation through it is simple because the control buttons are graphically represented with icons, and each page has a help bubble for further assistance.
Educational uses
You can document corneal and retinal disease and educate your patients and their families right there in your office with Haag-Streit's EyeCap system. You can also follow corneal disease and show a patient the areas of irritation caused by his old or poorly fitted contact lenses. You might find that patients are more compliant after comparing normal corneas to their own irritated or infected corneas.
Don't miss out
This amazing new system can simplify the way you practice by allowing you to better educate and manage your patients and coordinate with colleagues on treatment strategies. Try it out for yourself and see what else the EyeCap has to offer.
