Street-smart sunwear

■ The Revolvr, Slik and Wx Stryker, from Wiley X Eyewear, are three new Street Series sunglass styles.

All feature both classic and modern thick frame designs and are etched with the Wiley X "WX" logo on the temple, the company says. These styles also contain the company's High Velocity Protection (HVP) Selenite Polycarbonate lenses — the same lenses used to protect our military, Wiley X Eyewear says. All styles but the Revolvr are adaptable to prescription lenses.

Multifocal toric contact lens expansion

■ The Proclear Multifocal toric daily wear contact lens, from CooperVision, now comes in a sphere power range of +20.00D to -20.00D (0.50D steps after +/-6.50D); cylinder powers of -0.75D to -5.75D in 0.50D steps; axis in 5° steps; and ADD powers of +1.00D to +4.00D in 0.50D steps.

The made-to-order monthly-replacement lens is made of the company's PC Hydrogel omafilcon A material and features 8.4mm and 8.8mm base curves and a 14.4mm diameter. These extended parameter lenses are available in six-lens packs.

Trumpet-shaped side port manipulator

■ The Dudley Trumpet Manipulator, from Rhein Medical, has a distal segment that flares into a trumpet shape, providing the surgeon with whom you're comanaging a broad surface area with which to push, pull and dilate a nucleus or nucleus fragments. Also, the device has a 45° angle with a 10mm shaft, a concave tip, allowing for several surgical maneuvers, and it fits through a 1mm paracentesis incision and can guide haptics into the capsular bag.

Free interactive diagnostic lens software

■ The Volk CD Product Simulator, from Volk Optical, is a free program that employs computer animation to show you the static field of view, image magnification, laser-spot magnification and working distance of each of the company's diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical ophthalmic lenses in relation to the entire retina. (The program is Windows 98 through Vista compatible.)

The device, which runs in eight languages, including Chinese, also enables you to make side-by-side comparisons of each lens.

Progressive ophthalmic lens offers low fitting height

■ The Scientific Optical Labs of Australia (SOLA) Compact ULTRA high-definition (HD) short-corridor progressive ophthalmic lens, from Carl Zeiss Vision, features a low 13mm fitting height, allowing your progressive-lens patients to choose from a variety of small frames, the company says.

In addition, the lens, which is available in 1.67 clear and Transitions Gray lenses and includes an anti-reflective coating, offers binocularity, low skew distortion and low levels of unwanted astigmatism, Carl Zeiss Vision says.
