Portable electronic magnifier
■ The FarView, from Optelec US, Inc., is a portable electronic magnifier that provides distance and near viewing. The device, which weighs 10.2 ounces, features a 4.3-inch reading screen; magnification up to 90X; a built-in auto-focus camera (storage of up to 100 images); six reading contrast viewing modes; and auto-scroll, rotation, picture alignment contrast and brightness functions. Other attributes included: USB/UGA connections and a four-hour battery life.

Astigmatic lens expansion
■ The Proclear Toric XR, from CooperVision, has expanded to low cylinders (-0.75D to -2.25D) in high plus and high minus spheres. This means that the total sphere power range for this lens is +10.00D to -10.00D. The omafilcon A daily wear monthly replacement lens is made of the company's PC technology, which maintains the lens moistness and comfort throughout the day, CooperVision says. Other features: a 8.4mm and 8.8mm base curve, a 14.4mm diameter and cylinder powers of -0.75D to -5.75D in 0.50D steps and around-the-clock axis. The lens is available in six-pack blisters.

Short-corridor progressive lens
■ The GT2 Short, from Carl Zeiss Vision, is a short-corridor progressive lens (13mm minimum fitting height). It provides a continually widening near zone, as the fitting height increases and offers virtually distortion-free wide, clear vision above the 180° line, the company says.
The lens, which is anti-reflective coat compatible, is available in polycarbonate, 1.67 High Index, 1.50 Hard Resin and 1.5 Hard Resin Transitions VI Gray and Brown. A wide range of base curves are available.
The GT2 Short provides a continually widening near zone, as the fitting height increases, Carl Zeiss Vision says.

Hybrid lens expansion
■ The SynergEyes Multifocal and PS (post-surgical) hybrid lenses, from SynergEyes, Inc., are available in expanded parameters.
The Multifocal lens now comes in sphere powers from +5.00D to -8.00D in 0.25 steps and -8.50D to -20.00D in 0.50D steps. The lens offers base curves of 7.0mm, 8.1mm and 8.2mm and skirt curvatures of 0.7mm and 1.6mm.
The PS lens is now available in sphere powers from +6.00D to -8.00D in 0.25D steps and -8.50D to -12.00D in 0.50D steps. This lens is available in base curves of 7.2mm to 9.00mm in 0.20mm steps.

Wavefront ophthalmic lens
■ The iZon SL lens, from Ophthonix, Inc., is a customized wavefront 1.6 index ophthalmic lens for both single vision and PAL patients. It features scratch-resistant, anti-reflective and super-hydrophobic coatings and provides high-definition intermediate contrast, glare and low luminance acuity, the company says. Ophthonix Inc.'s Z-View Aberrometer measures the patient's optical "fingerprint" (which contains all second to sixth-order aberrations) to create the lens.
