FOR YOUR PATIENTS AND PRACTICE
Parameter expansion
■ The Biofinity Toric contact lens, from CooperVision, is now available in sphere powers of +6.00D to -8.00D; cylinders of -0.75D, -1.25D, -1.75D and -2.25D; and axis around the clock. The monthly replacement comfilcon A lens is manufactured with the company's Aquaform Comfort Science technology, which CooperVision says provides natural wettability. Other features: a proprietary Optimized Ballast design; a Dk/t of 116, an 8.7mm base curve and a 14.5mm diameter. Biofinity Toric lenses come in six-pack blisters.

Handheld tonometer
■ The ambidextrous and portable AccuPen Handheld Applanation Tonometer, from Accutome, Inc., employs micro strain gauge technology, gravity offset technology and proprietary waveform analysis to ensure accurate intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, the company says. To obtain adjusted IOP values based on the patient's central corneal thickness (CCT), just input the patient's CCT into the device. Other device features: sighting lines for easy corneal view — facilitating centralization and perpendicularity and a 3.6-volt lithium battery.

Ophthalmic lens expansion
■ iZon SL Lenses, from Ophthonix, are now available in Transitions VI, providing patients with enhanced vision in low luminance and intermediate contrast conditions, the company says. The lens, which includes index-matched scratch-resistant, anti-reflective and super hydrophobic coatings, is available in 1.6 index. Colors include: gray and brown in both Single Vision and PAL. Ophthonix creates iZon lenses using the patient's “optical fingerprint,” which contains all 2nd to 6th-order aberrations, as measured by the company's Z-View Aberrometer.

Golf ophthalmic lens
■ Definity Fairway Transitions SOLFXlenses, from Essilor of America Inc., are sunglasses specifically designed for presbyopic golfers. The sunwear combines Definity's Dual Add 2.0 technology and ground view advantage with Transitions SOLFX photochromic technology to improve a golfer's contrast and depth perception, the company says. The lenses are available in Airwear polycarbonate with a sphere power of +4.00D to -7.00D; a cylinder up to -4.00D; an Add power of +1.00D to +3.00D and a prism up to 6.00D.

Refraction system
■ The TRS-3100 Total Refraction System, from Marco, enables you to quickly refine sphere, cylinder and prism lenses — via its operator keypad — for the instantaneous comparison of current prescriptions or unaided to corrected vision, the company says. Also, the device automatically adjusts power convergence and power pupillary distance (PD) during near point tests. Or, you can manually adjust the PD. Finally, the TRS-3100's built-in IC Card reader enables a wireless interface with a Marco autorefractor and autolensmeter.
